Larian studios really said "We are going to create a Baldur's Gate that is SO queer"

Everyone is romanceable, regardless of gender. You can have he/him, she/her, or they/them pronouns and none of those are tied to what body type or genitals you have (both of which you can pick, independently of each other). The daughter of a literal god who teams up with you is like "me and my girlfriend need to go kiss for 100 years now brb". Every other npc in Baldur's Gate will casually mention their same sex partners. The ringleader of the planes hopping circus is heavily implied to be a trans woman. One person who can join you gets captured multiple times and travels the world, all to save a man he loves.

It's everywhere and it just...is. There's no stopping the plot for the game devs to pat themselves on the back for including a "diverse" character. There's no dialogue option to have a character spoon feed you the idea that they could be interested in the same gender. There's no casual homophobia. No constant casual sexual harassment towards your character just because you chose the "female" option.

And it's so varied. One queer romance is about doing everything to save the other and the reunion is a beautiful kiss. Another is being completely shot down by someone they risked so much for. A man in the streets will say "Get a load of my husband. Such a piece of work. And I'm the one who fell for the blockhead". It doesn't feel cheap if a queer character dies or is a terrible person or if their romance story falls apart completely, because there are just so many. Honestly, that goes for a lot of things in the game, diversity-wise. It's just really nice.

The Genre of Tales from Eidolon.

I do want to talk a bit about what to expect both gameplay and genre-wise with TFE so people know what to expect.

First of all, Tales from Eidolon is very strategy focused. Positioning and proper resource management is going to be crucial. Expect something similar to the XCOM games but on the tabletop, and in an odd, fantasy-western setting.

Second of all, this game will fall under the horror genre in some, or most cases. I say this as the monsters of the game will have designs that’ll fall under the category of body horror. However, that’s the most horror that I’ll be adding in. Since horror affects everyone differently I’ll only be covering one aspect instead of multiple, and opening the game up to GMs and players to add more (emphasis on both the GM and players, as they should all fully agree on what experiences they want around the table).

That’s it for now. Stay tuned for more info on the game as it grows.

Tales from Eidolon Archetype Preview: The Guardian

Here’s the first full piece of official art for TFE (a Halfling Guardian), and alongside it I want to dive a little into what the Guardian Archetype is all about.

Note: All of what’s covered here is not set in stone, and may be subject to change during development.

The Guardian is one of the Kit Archetypes (accessed by choosing the Protector Kit in character creation), and can be considered both a support tank, and combat medic. They have access to supportive and combative spells, they give and gain bonuses when healing others, and has a pool of dice that can be used to either heal themselves and others, or boost the damage of their attacks. Along with the heavier armor and weapon options that can be chosen early on, the Guardian provides a much appreciated blend of your typical tank and healer options.

That’s all that I’ll share for now. Next Archetype that’ll be previewed may be the Corsair, so stay tuned for that. Hope you all enjoyed this, and I’ll see you in the next update.

Tales from Eidolon Preview: Archetypes

Since I’m working on the art for this aspect of TFE, I might as well talk a little about character Archetypes. These are essentially mini classes that you can build into.

Archetypes are divided into two different categories, Kit Archetypes and Kin Archetypes. Kit Archetypes are accessible through the starting equipment you choose in character creation (i.e. taking the Protector Kit gives you access to the Guardian and Knight Archetypes), and Kin Archetypes are accessible through the species (aka: Kin) you choose (i.e. playing as a Dwarf gives you access to the Augmenteer and Crystalguard Archetypes).

Each player has access to around 4-5 Archetypes, which can be built into however way you want. You can focus on one, build into multiple, etc. There’s technically no level cap, so you can build up multiple Archetypes over time. The only hurdles being the leveling process slowing over time, and of course surviving long enough to level up.

The first Archetype that’ll be shown off is the Guardian Archetype, so stay tuned for that.

Howdy folks. Just want to throw something up here to show what I’m currently working on. It’s a tabletop roleplaying game that takes place in and around a large city by the name of Eidolon. It’s going to be strategy heavy, with some aspects of horror thrown in there for good measure.

Everything is still very much a work in progress (including this artwork), so stay tuned if this is something that interests you.
